Rivals team up to raise $1800 for cancer research

MOBILE, Ala. -- Two bitter rivals on the field, the University of Mobile and Spring Hill College put their bitterness aside for one day and teamed up for their second collaboration of the season, this time raising over $1800 for cancer research by hosting the "Cancer Strikeout" doubleheader on March 23 on the University of Mobile campus in Mobile, Ala.

Mobile won both games, winning the first game 5-2 and the nightcap 4-1.

The "Strikeout" Cancer program is a partnership between the American Cancer Society and the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.  The program is used to raise cancer awareness and reduce cancer risk through educational programs, while raising funds for the American Cancer Society.  All proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society research, education, advocacy and patient services.

This is the second season in a row that Mobile has participated.

Last year, Mobile defeated William Carey College 6-0 and 12-0 while striking out 16 batters and raising over $800.

While strikeouts weren’t as frequent this season, the two teams still combined to raise nearly $1,000 more than last year.
