MOBILE, Ala. --
Kirby Baxter (13-2) pitched a perfect game as the University of Mobile
(29-5) wrapped up a softball sweep of Sterling College with an 8-0 win on
the University Mobile campus Wednesday afternoon in Mobile, Ala.
Mobile also blanked Sterling in the
doubleheader's first game as Anne McLean improved to 10-1 on the season
with a 5-0 shutout of her own.
Baxter didn't allow a baserunner and
struck out six in her five-inning effort. The game was called in the
fifth inning due to Mobile's eight-run lead.
Christie Jackson was 3-for-3 from the
plate and Slyvia Bedgood, Denisse Fuenmayor, Stephanie Landrum and
Meredith Tanner added two hits apiece in support of Baxter.
McLean tossed a seven-inning two hitter,
striking out six and walking two in the opener. Bedgood and Molly
Walker had two hits and Fuenmayor drove in two RBI for the Rams.
Mobile (29-5) starts play in the
University of West Florida tournament today, facing Sterling again at 2
p.m. and the host team at 6 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla.
