Baxter hurls perfect game, Mobile sweeps Sterling College

MOBILE, Ala. -- Kirby Baxter (13-2) pitched a perfect game as the University of Mobile (29-5) wrapped up a softball sweep of Sterling College with an 8-0 win on the University Mobile campus Wednesday afternoon in Mobile, Ala.

Mobile also blanked Sterling in the doubleheader's first game as Anne McLean improved to 10-1 on the season with a 5-0 shutout of her own.

Baxter didn't allow a baserunner and struck out six in her five-inning effort.  The game was called in the fifth inning due to Mobile's eight-run lead.

Christie Jackson was 3-for-3 from the plate and Slyvia Bedgood, Denisse Fuenmayor, Stephanie Landrum and Meredith Tanner added two hits apiece in support of Baxter.

McLean tossed a seven-inning two hitter, striking out six and walking two in the opener.  Bedgood and Molly Walker had two hits and Fuenmayor drove in two RBI for the Rams.

Mobile (29-5) starts play in the University of West Florida tournament today, facing Sterling again at 2 p.m. and the host team at 6 p.m. in Pensacola, Fla.
