Rodriguez Honored By GCAC

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile's Cristina Rodriguez was named the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 23, 2008.

The 6th-ranked Lady Rams (17-3) played only two games on the week, but they were big games, as Mobile handed 4th-ranked Trevecca Nazarene its first two losses of the season. Rodriguez played a big part in both victories.

In the opener, the Lady Rams were having trouble doing anything against Brittiany Johnson, and they found themselves down 1-0 in the bottom of the 7th. Then, after a wild pitch tied the game, Rodriguez came up to the plate and slapped a walk-off single to left field for the 2-1 win.

The senior catcher followed that up by going 2-for-3 at the plate with 2 RBI and 3 runs scored in a 10-2 victory in the finale of the double header. Rodriguez hit .429 over the two games.

Mobile opens GCAC play Thursday, March 27th at William Carey.
