4th-Ranked Lady Rams Drop GCAC Opener

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The 4th-ranked University of Mobile softball team fell in an extra-inning affair to begin Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action, as 12th-ranked William Carey picked up a 3-2 victory in the 8th.

After the two teams battled to a 1-1 tie through regulation, the Lady Saders picked up two in the bottom of the 8th and walked away victorious on a walk-off solo bomb from Jeana Erickson. The Lady Saders had tied the game at 2-2 the batter before on a sac fly to answer a Jennifer Gomez sac fly in the top half of the inning.

William Carey took a 1-0 lead in the second frame after Tan Montgomery turned a trio of walks into a run with a 2-out RBI hit up the middle. The Lady Rams then finally got to Lady Sader pitcher Devin King as Jessica McIntyre scored from 2nd on a miscue by the William Carey defense in the 6th.

McIntyre finished 2-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and Jennifer Gomez finished 1-for-3 with 1 RBI. Erickson led the Lady Saders at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort. Nikki Madden was the tough-luck loser after scattering 6 hits over 7.2 innings and allowing only 2 earned runs. King (3-1) went the distance, allowing 7 hits and a pair of unearned tallies.
