Lady Rams Split With Blazers

The 4th-ranked University of Mobile softball split Saturday’s Gulf Coast Athletic Conference double-header at Belhaven College. Belhaven took the opener 3-2 and Mobile rebounded with a 12-5 victory in the finale.

In the opener, the teams traded runs through the first 2 frames and then the Blazers accounted for the winning runs in the bottom of the 3rd when Meghan Pursell smacked a 2-run homer.

Sarah Burns picked up her 12th win of the season by scattering 8 hits over 7 innings and fanning 5. Ginger Reeser was charged with the loss after allowing 3 runs on 6 hits.

The second game was much more to Mobile’s liking as the Lady Rams tallied 12 runs on 11 hits in the 12-5 victory.

After trailing 1-0 through 2 frames, the Lady Rams scored in every inning, including a 4-spot in the 3rd and a 5-spot in the 6th.

In the 3rd, the Lady Rams used three Lady Blazer miscues and a RBI groundout from Jennifer Gomez to take a 4-1 lead. The teams then traded runs over the next two innings before Mobile put it away with a 5-run 6th inning.

Anadys Suarez started the scoring in the frame with a RBI single and Jineth Pimentel added the dagger with a grand slam. Mobile improves to 18-6 overall and 1-3 in conference action.

Suarez finished 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored, Taylor Lee Phillips finished 2-for-3 with 3 runs scored and Pimentel was 1-for-4 with the grand slam. Nikki Madden got the win with 4.2 innings of relief.
