Lady Rams Sweep Visiting Faulkner

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team used pitching and timely hitting to take down Faulkner University by scores of 3-0 and 3-2 Wednesday afternoon in non-conference NAIA action.

In the opening game of the twin bill, Erika Rangel provided all of the offense and Leslie Pickette dazzled with 7 innings of 3-hit shutout ball. The right-hander fanned six and walked two in the shutout effort.

The Lady Eagles put a pair of runners in scoring position with 1 out in the 2nd inning, but Pickette fanned two to get out of the jam and did not allow anymore runners in scoring position after the frame.

While Faulkner failed to capitalize on their scoring opportunity in the top of the 2nd, the Lady Rams' Erika Rangel popped a 2-run homer in the bottom half of the frame for the game-winning tallies. In the 3rd inning, Rangel drove in another run with a RBI infield single. She finished 2-for-3 with 3 RBI in the game.

Pickette (17-0) picked up the victory in the final game as well, coming on in relief to record the final out in the 7th before Mobile won the game in the bottom half of the frame. Mindy Scott got the start and dominated the Lady Eagles with 6 innings of 1-hit shutout ball, before running into trouble in the 7th.

Ally Scott staked Mobile to a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning with a 2-out, 2-run single. In the 7th, Faulkner got to Scott for a pair of runs on four hits with Courtney Barber tying the game with a RBI single to left. A bunt and two errors loaded the bases with nobody out for Mobile in the bottom of the 7th and Jineth Pimentel brought home Abby Campbell with a sac fly to left field.

Desiree Truett and Ally Scott collected two hits apiece to lead the Mobile attack.

Mobile (24-5, 3-1) visits Belhaven College for a GCAC double header Saturday, April 4 at 3 pm.
