Lady Rams Rebound With Sweep

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team dropped to #11 in the latest NAIA softball poll and then responded by sweeping a double-header from 20th-ranked Faulkner University. Mobile won game one 9-1 in 5 innings due to the eight-run rule and then finished the sweep with a 5-3 victory.

In the opener, Faulkner struck first with a tally in the top of the 1st, but the Lady Rams answered with a pair of their own in the inning and then put the game away with 5 runs in the 4th and 2 runs in the 5th.

Jessica McIntyre put the Lady Rams ahead for good with a 2-out, 2-run double in the bottom of the 1st inning. Mobile then batted around in the 4th, plating 5.

McIntyre added another 2-run double in the 4th and Taylor Lee Phillips and Anadys Suarez added run-scoring base hits. A 2-run single from Cristina Rodriguez in the 5th ended the ball game.

On the mound, lefty Ginger Reeser cruised after a rough first. In the 1st inning, Faulkner tallied 3 hits and 1 run, but over the final four frames Reeser no-hit the Lady Eagles to move to 8-2 on the season. Reeser worked 5 and struck out 6.

Recently named NAIA Pitcher of the Week Emily Jimmerson lasted only 3.1 innings for Faulkner, allowing 9 hits and 6 runs. Abby Campbell went 3-for-3 for Mobile, Suarez finished 2-for-4 and Jessica McIntyre was 2-for-2 with 4 RBI.

Game 2 saw Mobile use the long ball for an early lead and then hold on for the close win.

Yaicey Sojo started the game with her 8th homer of the year, and then Jineth Pimentel added a 3-run bomb in the inning as Mobile plated 5 in the first to take a 5-0 lead.

Things stayed that way untill the 7th. Mobile's Karla Rodriguez worked 5 3-hit, scoreless frames and Faulkner's Cheryl Lavarnway settled down after the rocky first and held Mobile scoreless the rest of the way.

Eden Harris blasted a 3-run homer in the 7th to cut the deficit to 5-3, but Nikki Madden settled down to finish the game. The Lady Rams move to 20-6 on the season and next play at Spring Hill Saturday at noon.

Yaicey Sojo finished 2-for-3 with a homer, Cristina Rodriguez finished 2-for-3 and Jineth Pimentel added a 1-for-3 day with the 3-run homer.
