Lady Rams Sweep Lady Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile softball team swept rival Spring Hill College in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Rams won the opener 2-1 and finished with a 6-0 victory in the finale to move to 22-6 overall and 3-3 in GCAC play. Mobile is in 2nd place behind 3-1 William Carey.

In the opener, Mobile lefty Ginger Reeser dominated the Lady Badger hitters, fanning 8 and allowing only 1 run over 7 innings of work.

Meanwhile, Brittany Abate limited the Mobile bats to 6 hits in the game, but the Lady Rams turned two of those hits into just-enough offense to pull out the victory.

Cristina Rodriguez ripped a RBI-single to right field in the 4th after a passed ball moved Anadys Suarez into scoring position, and then Kelyn Mendoza provided the difference-maker with a solo bomb in the 5th. Mendoza finished 2-for-3 in the game.

Carlene Bolton accounted for the lone Spring Hill run with a RBI double in the 7th.

Game two, saw Nikki Madden 1-hit the Lady Badgers and the Lady Ram offense give her plenty of cushion. Lauren Herrera broke up Madden's no-hit bid with a double in the 5th, and that's all Spring Hill would get.

Madden went 7 and struck out 5 for the victory. The Lady Rams scored 3 runs apiece in the 3rd and 4th innings for the runs. Taylor Lee Phillips doubled home Mendoza and Yaicey Sojo in the 3rd and then Sojo and Phillips teamed up again top put the game away in the 4th.

Sojo smacked a 2-out, 2-run single and Phillips followed by singling home Sojo to complete the scoring. Sojo finished 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, Phillips finished 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and Mendoza finished 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored.
