Softball improves to 39-3 with double-header sweep against Louisiana college

Mobile, Ala. – The 2nd-ranked University of Mobile Rams improve to 39-3 following a 1-0, and 3-2 double-header sweep of Louisiana College. Thanks to a bottom of the seventh, game-winning homerun by Denisse Fuenmayor in game one, and solid pitching from both Missy Passley (18-3) and Kirby Baxter (20-0) the Rams extend their unbeaten streak to 16.

“We got good pitching out of Passley and Denisse got a big hit,” Coach Clark said, “but that first game shouldn’t have been that close. And this shouldn’t have been a 3-2 ballgame. We have to come to play every time we come out here. That’s something I’m going to try and get across to them. We have to get that discipline.”

Despite striking out 7 and allowing only 1 hit, Louisiana College’s Sandi Clark was unable to stave off Mobile as Fuenmayor blasted the game-winning homerun over the right field fence.

In the night cap Baxter (7 IP, 2 H, and 5 SO) staved off a late rally in the 6th inning and struck out her final two batters in the 7th to remain undefeated on the season.

Amie Roberts, Maria Soto, and Meredith Tanner (2-for-3) each picked up RBIs in another close game.
