Lady Rams Cruise; Rodriguez Throws No-Hitter

ALEXANDRIA, La-- The 10th-ranked University of Mobile softball team racked up 24 runs and got a no-hitter from freshman Karla Rodriguez while sweeping LSU-Alexandria by identical scores of 12-0 in Monday's double header.

Rodriguez (6-3) went the distance and fanned 4 while no-hitting the Generals in the finale. Rodriguez's bid for perfection was derailed by a pair of hit-batters, but the Houston, TX native did collect her second no-no of the season.

Offensively, the Lady Rams' bats gave Rodriguez plenty of support while banging out 16 hits and 12 runs. Cristina Rodriguez went 3-4 with a homer, Jessica McIntyre and Taylor Lee Phillips went 3-4, Yaicey Sojo went 1-for-2 with a bomb and Anadys Suarez went 2-for-2 and reached base 4 times.

In the opener, Mobile's offense backed Ginger Reeser as the lefty went the distance, throwing a 3-hitter and fanning 7. Reeser moved to 11-2 on the season and picked up her 3rd shutout.

At the plate, Suarez went 3-for-4 with a homer and 2 RBI, Kelyn Mendoza went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI, Jineth Pimentel went 2-for-4 with 1 RBI and Sojo reached base 4 times in 5 plate appearances.

The Lady Rams will return home to host a pair of Gulf Coast Athletic Conference double headers this weekend. Belhaven will visit for a 3:00 twinbill on Thursday, April 17th and rival Spring Hill will visit for a noon double header Saturday, April 19th.
