Mobile softball to host No. 1-ranked Thomas University

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile softball team (41-7) will put their perfect 22-0 home record on the line when they play host to No. 1-ranked Thomas University Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m. on the University of Mobile campus in Mobile, Ala.

The Rams, who are ranked No. 4 in this weeks NAIA National Top 25 softball poll, will try to avenge an earlier season sweep at the hands of the Lady Night Hawks.

Back on February 23, the Lady Night Hawks defeated the Rams 2-1 in the first game of the day before eight-run ruling the visitors in a mercy-ruled five inning game in the nightcap, winning 8-0.

Thomas has been on a tear as of late, winning 24 of their last 25, losing only to NCAA Division II Valdosta State, 2-1.  The Lady Night Hawks are ranked No. 1 in this weeks NAIA National Top 25 softball poll and post a nation’s best 37-3 record.

Thomas ace pitcher Cathy Andrijaszyn is 16-1 on the season and owns a microscopic 0.57 ERA in 110+ innings for the year.  Mobile will more than like face senior Tracey Avery in the second game.  Avery is every bit as impressive owning a 15-2 record with a 1.14 ERA in 95 innings.

The Rams are just 3-2 in their last five games after a season-long 23 game winning streak was snapped two weeks ago in the second game of a doubleheader against cross-town rival and then No. 24-ranked Spring Hill College.

After a two-game sweep of William Carey College, the Rams hit the road and split a pair of games with NCAA Division III defending national champions Louisiana College.

Saturday’s match-up will mark the final regular season games for Mobile before the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament next weekend, April 23-24.
