Lady Rams Blast Lady Blazers

MOBILE, Ala-- The 7th-ranked University of Mobile softball team swept visiting Belhaven College to move into 1st-place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference with a 7-3 mark.

The Lady Rams took game one 4-0 and then rallied for a 6-4 win in the finale behind a 2-out, grand slam from Cristina Rodriguez.

The opening game was all about who would making the most of your opportunities and the Lady Rams did that just enough, while the Lady Blazers left 10 runners on base, including 5 in the first 2 innings.

Ginger Reeser scattered 8 hits over 7 innings to pick up the win for the Lady Rams, while fanning 3. The Lady Rams left their share of runners on base, 7, but some long-ball magic in the 3rd and 4th innings produced a victory.

Cristina Rodriguez blasted a 2-run homer for the winning score in the 3rd inning and then Yaicey Sojo went yard in the 4th inning for a pair of insurance runs and the 4-0 score. Rodriguez, Anadys Suarez and Jineth Pimentel all went 2-for-3 in the ball game.

Game two saw the Lady Blazers jumped ahead 2-0 in the 1st inning on a pair of RBI ground outs and then answer a pair of Mobile tallies to take a 4-2 lead into the bottom of the 6th inning.

That's when Cristina Rodriguez stepped up to the plate and blasted a 2-1 offering over the right field fence for a 2-out, grand slam and a 6-4 Mobile victory. Rodriguez finished the game 3-for-3 with 6 RBI, while Abby Campbell and Jineth Pimentel both had 2-hit games. Pimentel has recorded multiple hits in 6 consecutive ball games.

Karla Rodriguez (7-3) was the victor with 2 innings of 1-run relief, while Ginger Reeser worked a perfect 7th for her 1st save of the season.

Mobile (29-7, 7-3) hosts rival Spring Hill College for a noon double header Saturday to close out the regular season.
