Rodriguez Earns National Honor

MOBILE, Ala-- Cristina Rodriguez was named the NAIA Softball National Player of the Week for the week of April 14-20.

Rodriguez mashed in six games on the week as the Lady Rams went 6-0 to improve to 31-7 on the season. The senior catcher batted .588, slugged 1.176 and posted an on-base percentage of .571 in the week's action.

She was at her best in four Gulf Coast Athletic Conference games on the week as the Lady Rams swept Spring Hill and Belhaven to move into 1st-place in the GCAC standings. Against the Lady Blazers, Rodriguez went 5-for-6 at the plate with 2 homers and 8 RBIs.

In the opener, she broke open a scoreless ball game with a 2-run homer and then in the finale, Rodriguez blasted a 2-out grandslam in the bottom of the 6th to battle back from a 4-2 deficit and take a 6-4 victory.

She then reached base four times in two games against Spring Hill to help pace the Mobile offense. Rodriguez and the 5th-ranked Lady Rams will compete at the GCAC Tournament in Clinton, MS April 25-26.

Reeser Brings Home Award...

Ginger Reeser also dominated on the week and was named the GCAC and Region XIII Pitcher of the Week after improving her record to an impressive 13-2 on the season.

The lefty appeared in four of the week's six games and hurled 3 complete-game shutouts and picked up her first save of the season.

After limiting LSU-Alexandria to two baserunners in a complete-game effort, Reeser came up big in GCAC play. She shutdown Belhaven in the opener of the double-header, and then came on to pitch a perfect 7th to save the finale.

She then finished the week by shutting out rival Spring Hill. Reeser has a 1.55 ERA and 12 complete games on the season. She's holding opponents to a .223 batting average.
