Lady Rams Advance in GCAC Tournament

CLINTON, Miss-- The UM softball team defeated William Carey University 5-3 to move to 2-0 at the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, but the rest of the tournament was rained out and will not be made up.

The Lady Rams pounded out 10 hits and rallied from a 3-0 deficit after 4.5 innings of play with 2 runs in the 5th and three 2-out scores in the bottom of the 6th.

In the 5th, Jennifer Gomez led off with a single and later scored on a wild pitch, and Taylor Lee Phillips produced an RBI groundout to score Jineth Pimentel and cut the deficit to 3-2.

Mobile got 4 hits and RBI's from Kelyn Mendoza, Jineth Pimentel and Taylor Lee Phillips to put the game away in the 6th inning. Ginger Reeser (15-2) picked up the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. Reeser allowed 3 hits and fanned 4.

Anadys Suarez, Jennifer Gomez and Jineth Pimentel each went 2-for-3 at the plate and Abby Campbell finished 2-for-2. The Lady Rams (33-7) next play at the Region XIII Tournament in Orange Beach, AL May 6-8.

CLINTON, Miss-- The University of Mobile softball team climbed to #5 in the latest NAIA poll released Wednesday and defeated rival Spring Hill College 2-1 in the opening round of the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Friday evening.

Spring Hill struck first with a tally in the top of the 3rd inning, but Anadys Suarez promptly knotted the game at 1-1 by leading off the bottom of the 4th inning with a solo bomb.

Abby Campbell then provided the game-winner with a 2-out single in the bottom of the 6th to plate Jennifer Gomez.

Taylor Lee Phillips and Kelyn Mendoza each finished 2-for-3 at the plate, and Suarez finished 1-for-2 with the homer. Ginger Reeser picked up the victory for the Lady Rams by going the distance and fanning 5 while limiting the Lady Badgers to 4 hits.

Mobile (32-7) advances to play William Carey in a winner's bracket matchup Saturday at 12:15.
