Lady Blazers Eliminate Lady Rams

GULF SHORES, Ala—Belhaven College used Mallory Meadow’s 3-run home run to eliminate 15th-ranked University of Mobile from the GCAC Softball Tournament Saturday at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

Mobile (32-12) will await the final NAIA Top-25 next week and hope they are high enough to receive one of the eight at-large bids to the NAIA National Tournament in Decatur, while Belhaven will battle William Carey at 5:30 in the GCAC Title game. Belhaven would have to beat William Carey twice to win the title.

Meadows got the win for Belhaven by limiting Mobile to two runs on eight hits in 7 innings of work, while Nicole Sweat took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits in two innings of action.

The Lady Rams started the scoring in the 2nd inning when Kirstyn Joiner singled home Tess Ackerman for a 1-0 lead. Then, in the 3rd, the Lady Blazers tallied four runs on five hits to take control of the game.

The first four hitters reached in the inning, with Heather Pace providing a RBI single to tie the game and then Meadows jacked the 3-run homer to center field to cap the scoring.

Mobile scored again in the 6th thanks to another RBI hit from Joiner, and then got the first two on to start the 7th, but a double play and pop out ended the threat.

Pace and Salina Cervantes finished 2-for-3 at the plate, while Meadows finished 1-for-3 with a 3-run homer. Joiner led Mobile by going 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, while Ackerman finished 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
