Lady Rams Named All-Conference
HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the 2009 All-GCAC Softball Team Sunday, and the University of Mobile had four players honored on the honorary list.
For Mobile, Jineth Pimentel (3B), Leslie Pickette (SP), Kirstyn Joiner (C) and Ally Scott (RF) made the team. GCAC Champ William Carey led the way with eight players on the list, while Mobile tied with Belhaven for second most representatives.
Pickette, a native of Oxford, Ala., was named the GCAC Pitcher of the Year after going 22-3 with a 1.58 ERA. She struck out 97 in 159.2 innings and twirled 20 complete-games and five shutouts. Her 22 wins rank 5th in the NAIA.
Pimentel is on the team for the second straight season after leading the Lady Rams in batting average (.383), runs scored (39), doubles (10), homers (6), slugging percentage (.626) and on-base percentage (.522). The 2008 NAIA All-American also drew 31 walks and struck out only five times on the season.
Joiner and Scott both made the team as true freshmen. Joiner caught all 44 games this season for Mobile and was second on the team with a .374 batting average, while driving in 20 runs and posting a .438 on-base percentage. She also threw out 14 of 25 would-be base stealers (64%). Scott posted a .368 batting average for Mobile, scoring 24 runs and driving in a team-high 34 runs. She slugged .504 and finished with 11 extra base hits.
