Lady Rams Clean Up On Awards

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the 2008 All-Conference team and year-end awards over the weekend, and the 5th-ranked UM softball team racked up.

Senior center fielder Yaicey Sojo was tabbed the GCAC Player of the Year for the second straight season, lefty Ginger Reeser was named the GCAC Pitcher of the Year, and 1st-year head coach Terri McCormick was named the GCAC Coach of the Year.

Meanwhile, joining Sojo and Reeser on the all-conference squad are Jineth Pimentel, Anadys Suarez, Cristina Rodriguez, Nikki Madden and Kelyn Mendoza.

Sojo batted .464 on the season with an on-base percentage of .571, while leading the Rams with 12 homers and 23 steals. Reeser racked up an impressive 15-2 record with a miniscule 1.48 ERA, while tossing 13 complete games.

Pimentel made a strong impression in her first year with Mobile, batting .407 and leading the team with 31 RBI. Suarez mans the hot-corner for Mobile and is hitting .451 with a .525 on-base percentage. Rodriguez was recently named the NAIA National Player of the Week and is batting .344 with 30 RBI.

Mendoza batted .398 and slugged .620 for Mobile while throwing out 4 base runners from right field. Madden displayed the ability to start and come on in relief, while compiling an 11-2 record and 1.67 ERA. The senior walked only 15 while fanning 56 in 88 innings of work.

The Lady Rams (33-7) are ranked 5th in the NAIA and will next play at the Region XIII Tournament May 6th in Orange Beach, AL.
