MOBILE, Ala. – The fourth-ranked University of Mobile
softball team (44-9) swept all top honor categories in the GCAC and six
Rams were named All-Conference following their seventh consecutive
conference tournament championship.
Senior shortstop, Denisse Fuenmayor, was named GCAC
Player of the Year. She currently leads the team in several major batting
categories including batting average (.451), homeruns (5), RBIs (53) and
slugging (.725). A native of Guacara, Venezuela, Fuenmayor was a second
team All-American in 2003.
Kirby Baxter, who is 18-4 overall with a 1.40 ERA,
earned GCAC Pitcher of the Year honors while Coach Becky Clark, who just a
year earlier led the Rams to a 56-7-1 overall record and a runner-up
finish at the national tournament, garnered Coach of the Year distinction.
Second
baseman Sylvia Bedgood (.404 avg. and 23 stolen bases), senior
centerfielder Brenda Box (.427 avg., 32 stolen bases and 67 runs scored),
senior first baseman Stephanie Landrum (.431 avg. with 51 RBIs), pitcher
Ann McLean (17-3 with a 1.43 ERA), catcher Meredith Tanner (.402 avg. with
47 RBIs) and Rachel West (.341 avg.) all were named All-Conference.
