Baker's Carrie Walker Signs With The
University Of Mobile
MOBILE, Ala. – Upon concluding
another successful season with a 77-8 overall record and third place
finish at the 6A state tournament, Baker High School’s softball program
was given cause to celebrate once more as senior outfielder Carrie Walker
signed with the 4th-ranked University of Mobile Rams.
Having annihilated Holly
Currie's state record for career runs scored (248) with 294, Walker now will take
her batting accolades and outstanding glove into the Rams outfield and
help Mobile carry on the tradition of being a perennial powerhouse.
“I feel very fortunate to have
Carrie,” University of Mobile head coach Becky Clark said. “Her speed on
the bases fits well with our philosophy because we like to put pressure on
the opposing team’s defense. The fact that she comes from such a great
program will also offer another outstanding dimension to our team.”
Walker batted .447 with 79
runs, 20 doubles, 28 stolen bases (on 28 attempts) and 39 RBIs in 2004.
“Carrie was our leadoff
hitter,” Baker head coach Tony Scarbrough said. “As good a ballplayer she
is, she’s an even greater person. She started for us in 8th
grade and has been a starter ever since. She will certainly be missed.”
Her academic
prowess is equally impressive as she will graduate with a 4.07 GPA,
finishing 16 out of 300 students, at Baker High School. A National Honor
Society member and class officer, Walker will either pursue an Education
or Pre-med degree in the Fall of ’04.
