#1 MOBILE FALLS TO #8 OLIVET NAZARENE

DECATUR, Ala. – Despite giving up only one hit, one walk while striking out nine, University of Mobile (Ala.) (50-6-1) senior pitcher Missy Passley couldn’t prevent two costly errors that allowed 8th-seeded Olivet Nazarene University (Ill.) (60-11) to squeak in a run and defeat the top-seeded Rams 1-0 in Day Three action of the 23rd Annual NAIA Softball National Championships held at the Wilson Morgan Softball Complex in Decatur, Alabama.

Mobile’s Winter Guthrie was unable to field a routine fly to right field hit by Olivet’s Kylie Fenter.  The shot to right field scored Tiffany Jones for the game-winner.

Despite threatening with runners in scoring position in the bottom of the second inning and bottom of the fourth, Mobile simply could not score. Tigers’ pitcher Emily Johnston had a terrific outing as she gave up a stingy two hits in seven innings of work.

Mobile will move into the loser’s bracket and face regional foe Thomas University (Ga.) tonight at 7 p.m. The two teams are no strangers as they’ve played on eight prior occasions this season with Mobile leading the 2003 series 6-2.

Olivet will play the winner of Houston Baptist University (Texas) versus Oklahoma City University tomorrow at 10 a.m.
