DECATUR, Ala—The University of Mobile softball team is busy racking up honors on the diamond, but Tuesday, the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics honored four Lady Rams for their work in the classroom.

Abby Campbell, Jessica McIntyre, Taylor Lee Phillips and Ginger Reeser were all named 2008 Daktronics-NAIA Softball Scholar Athletes.

All four are starters on the Mobile team that is in the winner’s bracket of the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championships, and winning the award means the players maintained a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Campbell plays left field and is 2nd on the team with five outfield assists, while also dropping down 12 sac bunts on the season. McIntyre plays first base and is batting .298 with 11 doubles and 21 RBI, while Phillips has split time between second base and the designated player role en route to posting a .336 on-base percentage and swiping 14 bags in 15 attempts. Reeser leads the pitching staff with a 23-2 record and sub-1.50 ERA.

The Lady Rams are 41-8 heading into Tuesday afternoon’s game versus Lubbock Christian in bracket play at the National Championships.
