Lady Rams Named All-American
MOBILE, Ala-- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the 2008 Softball All-America Teams. The selections are made by the NAIA Softball Officers and comprise a First Team, Second Team and Honorable Mention Team.
The University of Mobile placed one player on the first team and featured a pair of honorable mention selections.
Center fielder Yaicey Sojo was tabbed a First-Team All American for the second consecutive year after leading the Lady Rams in runs scored, hits, doubles, homers, stolen bases, slugging percentage and on-base percentage.
The senior from Venezuela batted .429 with 15 homers 34 RBI, 56 runs scored and a .791 slugging percentage. Sojo also served as a catalyst from the leadoff spot with a .535 on-base percentage and 23 stolen bases in 27 attempts.
Infielders Anadys Suarez and Jineth Pimentel were named Honorable Mention All-Americans after helping lead Mobile to a 42-10 mark and second place finish at the 2008 NAIA Softball National Championships.
Suarez played third base for the Lady Rams and led the team with a .435 batting average while collecting 67 hits. She also posted a .514 on-base percentage and struck out only 7 times versus 25 walks.
Pimentel played second base in her first season with Mobile and served as a key run-producer in the Mobile lineup. The junior was second on the Lady Rams’ squad in runs (41), homers (11), slugging percentage (.714) and RBI (36). She also posted a .974 fielding percentage in 228 chances in the field. |
