NAIA Names Five Rams to
All-American Team
MOBILE, Ala. – Five members of the 2004 University of
Mobile softball team were named to the All-American team with two of them
also being named to the NAIA All-Tournament team after helping the Rams to
a fourth place finish at the national tournament in Decatur, Alabama.
Denisse Fuenmayor, Meredith Tanner and Kirby Baxter
were named to the first team with Brenda Box picking up second team
consideration and Stephanie Landrum earning honorable mention honors.
Fuenmayor and Box both were also named to the NAIA All-Tournament team.
Fuenmayor, the Rams senior shortstop from Carabobo,
Venezuela, went 6-for-14 with five RBIs and three runs scored at the
national tournament. She led the team in batting (.444), homeruns (6),
doubles (21) and RBIs (59). She was named second team All-American in
2003.
Box, Mobile’s senior centerfielder and a Mary G.
Montgomery alumnus, batted 6-for-11 with six RBIs and four runs scored at
the national tournament. She hit .406 on the season with 43 RBIs while
leading the team with 35 stolen bases and 73 runs scored. Box was an
honorable mention selection in 2003.
Junior Meredith Tanner, a native of Hoover, garners
All-American team honors for the first time after batting .389 with 48
RBIs, 20 doubles and three homeruns.
Baxter followed up a freshman second team
All-American campaign in 2003 with a sophomore first team one in 2004. She
went 22-5 with a 1.53 ERA and fanned 168 batters this season.
Satsuma native, Stephanie Landrum, was originally
recruited to pitch before successfully making the transition to first base
in this, her senior year. She batted .421 with 52 RBIs.
Under the
guidance of second year coach, Becky Clark, the Rams are 105-20-1.
