Lady Rams Softball Signs Local Star

MOBILE, Ala— After falling short of repeating as National Champions, the University of Mobile softball team signed a local product who brings national title experience.
The Lady Rams signed Theodore High School and Chipola Junior College product Megan Whitehead Monday afternoon. Whitehead compiled a .400 batting average and reached base 55% of the time in helping Chipola win the State, Region and National Championships this year.
The third baseman/ catcher will bring offensive versatility along with her championship experience.
“She’ll bring experience coming from a successful program and versatility to help in a couple of key areas,” Lady Rams Head Coach Coby Mackin said.
Playing close to home was a big draw for the Theodore alum, who was named All-County four times and tabbed as the Gatorade Player of the Year in her high school play days at Theodore.
While at Theodore, she also swatted 12 homers in her senior season, which was the most in the county. Aside from the power she’ll bring to the plate, coach Mackin is excited to bring Megan in because she’ll fit in on and off the field.
“This is somewhere where I always wanted to go and I wanted to come back home and play,” Whitehead said. “I can bring leadership and a genuine love for the game.”
