Mobile Sweeps Spring Hill in Tennis Action

MOBILE, Ala. -- The University of Mobile men's and women's tennis teams swept Spring Hill in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action Tuesday evening.

The UM men continued their domination over the Badgers with an 8-1 win, while the Lady Rams picked up their first win of the season with a 6-3 decision.

On the men's side, the Rams led 3-0 after doubles play and only lost the one singles match due to injury.

In doubles, Alejandro Vial and Guilherme Lorencon teamed up to beat Dane Hinton and Will Seevers 8-2, Shaun Wintzell and Ricky Weghorst beat Evan Davis and Brendan Gallagher 8-5, and Gustavo Godoi and Sam Perlmutter took down Chris Link and Jimmy Chassaing 8-3.

In singles action, Vial beat Hinton 6-2, 6-0; Wintzell beat Davis 7-5, 5-7, (10-7); Weghorst beat Gallagher 1-6, 6-1, (10-5); Lorencon beat Seevers 6-1, 6-0; Godoi beat Johnny Ngamvilay 6-0, 6-0; and Jesus Urmenta retired to injury and fell to Nick Rayburn 6-1, 1-0.

The University of Mobile men move to 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference. The Rams next play at Belhaven College March 7th at 4:00.

Lady Rams Bounce Back...

In doubles action, Josy Soares and Claudia Borges teamed up to beat Alli Symnlevich and Catherine Thames 8-3; Pam Boykin and Mayra Leal took down the team of Abbey Augelle and Paige Malone 8-6; and Spring Hill salvaged one doubles match when the team of Alex Tovar and Lynne Fritschep beat Michelle Machen and Camilla Hovden 8-1.

In singles action, the Lady Rams got big wins from the #5 and #6 slots when Leal and Hovden came through with victories.

Soares beat Symnlevich 6-1, 6-0; Borges took down Malone 6-2, 6-2; Augelle beat Boykin due to injury 2-2; Tovar beat Machen 6-2, 6-1; Leal beat Fritschep 6-4, 6-3; and Hovden rounded out play with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) win over Gina Pambiavichi.

The Lady Rams move to 1-1 on the season and next play at Belhaven College on March 7th at 4:00 pm.
