UM Tennis Players Named Scholar-Athletes

KANSAS CITY, Mo.-- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics released the 2009 Men's and Women's Tennis Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes Friday, and the University of Mobile had three representatives on the list.

The only two seniors on the Mobile squad were honored. Mendoza, Argentina native Alejandro Vial and Jacksonville, Fla. native Sam Perlmutter were two of 86 student-athletes that received the honor.

The athletes are nominated by their head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status.

The Lady Rams' lone recipient is Spanish Fort, Ala. native Jordin Wiggins. She was one of 121 women to earn the honor.

The UM men's tennis team finished the season with a 10-5 record and competed in the 2009 NAIA Men's Tennis National Championships after receiving the host-bid.

Mobile's women finished with a 12-6 mark and earned the host bid to the 2009 NAIA Women's Tennis National Championship.
