Mobile Tennis Honored By GCAC

MOBILE, Ala—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the men’s and women’s tennis all-conference selections, and the University of Mobile was well-represented.

The Mobile women earned nods at four of the six singles slots and one of the three doubles spots. Uwe Tittl was named GCAC Coach of the Year as well.

Josy Soares was tabbed All-GCAC at No. 1 singles after going 10-4, Claudia Borges was selected at No. 2 singles with a 15-1 mark, Mayra Leal earned top honors at the No. 5 singles slot after going 13-0 and Camilla Hovden was all-conference at No. 6 singles with a 9-3 record.

The doubles tandem of Pam Boykin and Mayra Leal earned top billing in the No. 2 doubles slot after putting up an impressive 13-3 mark.

On the men’s side, Alejandro Vial was named the GCAC Player of the Year and GCAC Newcomer of the Year after going 10-1 at No.1 singles for the Rams.

The Lady Rams went 12-6 on the season, won the GCAC Tournament and earned a bid to the NAIA Women’s Tennis National Tournament for the fourth straight year.

The UM men went 9-7, finished second in the GCAC standings and earned a bid to the NAIA Men’s Tennis National Tournament in its first year of reinstatement since being cut in 1998.
