Pair of UM Athletes Earn GCAC Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Spring Player of the Week Awards for the week ending March 22, and the University of Mobile had a pair of players honored by the conference.

Mindy Scott was named the GCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week, while Nathan Rau was tabbed GCAC Men’s Golf Player of the Week.

Rau is the third different UM men’s golfer to win the award this season, joining teammates Alejandro Salcedo and Cameron Smith. Scott is the second Lady Ram pitcher to earn the award, joining teammate Leslie Pickette.

Rau, a junior from Cumminy, took home top individual honors at the UST Texas Intercollegiate last week. He fired an opening-round 68 and followed that with a final-round 69 on the par-72 course. The Rams finished the event tied for the 3rd place.

Scott, meanwhile, got the start in the double-header finale versus Oklahoma Christian and went the distance to lead Mobile to the 2-1 victory. The junior allowed only six base runners and fanned one, while allowing only an unearned tally.

Mobile (21-4) returns to action Saturday, March 28 at Spring Hill College in a noon double header.
