Trio Of UM Athletes Honored By GCAC

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference announced the GCAC Players of the Week for the week ending April 5, and the University of Mobile had three athletes honored.

Theodore native David Cramblitt was tabbed as GCAC Baseball Player of the Week, Jacksonville native Sam Perlmutter was named GCAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, and Florence native Maegan Rice was selected as GCAC Women’s Golfer of the Week.

Perlmutter was undefeated in singles and doubles play on the week as the Rams went 4-0 to up their season record to 8-3. Against rival Spring Hill, the senior won 9-7 at No. 2 doubles and then swept No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-0. After cruising to victories in a pair of matches versus Tougaloo, Perlmutter won No. 2 doubles 8-1, and No. 4 singles 8-2 in a match at Belhaven.

Cramblitt swung a hot bat on the week as the Rams went 5-0, with sweeps against Stillman and LSU-Alexandria. The third baseman capped the week by going 8-for-11 with 8 runs scored and 9 driven in, in the 3-game series versus LSU-A. Cramblitt hit .588 with 1 homer, 9 RBI and 9 runs for the week.

Rice continued her dominant play by recording a 3rd-place finish at the Bash at the Beach in Daytona Beach, FL. She recorded an opening-round best 1-under par 70 and then carded a 4-over 75 in the final round to finish in 3rd. The Lady Rams finished the tournament in 11th place.
