Rams Win Weekly Awards

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Player of the Week Awards for the week ending September 14, 2008, and University of Mobile athletes claimed 4 of the honors.

For the second straight week, Sherri McIntosh was named the Women's Cross Country Runner of The Week, Kelly Sherling was tabbed the Volleyball Player of the Week, Jason Williams earned Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week honors, and Cameron Smith was named the Men's Golf Player of the Week.

Williams got the nod after collecting 4 saves and allowing only 1 goal in a 2-1 Mobile win over Houghton, in a battle of teams receiving votes in the NAIA poll. The Rams are 3-2-1 on the season and will host the UM Soccer Classic Sept. 19-20.

Smith finished 10th overall at the MCC/Rush Fall Invitational to help the Rams to a 4th-place finish. Smith shot a 72 in round 2, with bookend tallies of 75.

Sherling saw her first extensive action of the season over the weekend at the Berry College Tournament and did not disappoint. The 5-10 sophomore was named to the All-Tournament Team after collecting 46 kills with a .323 attack percentage. She had 11+ kills in all four matches. The Lady Rams, 10-0, next play at the Lee University Tournament Sept. 19-20.

McIntosh continued her impressive run by finishing 23rd at the Azalea City Invitational September 13th. She finished the 5K course in 21.53.
