Mobile Athletes Continue To Dominate
MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the weekly player of the week awards for the week ending September 21, 2008, and Mobile again racked up honors, with five players earning recognition.
Sherri McIntosh won her 3rd straight GCAC Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week after placing 3rd at the Gulf Coast Stampede with a 5K time of 20:12. Freshman Erika Lundberg earned the nod in women's golf after her first collegiate tournament. Lundberg led the Lady Rams at the Great Smokies Women's Invite with a two-round 150.
The Lady Rams' undefeated volleyball team once again earned a pair of awards, as Nicole Stokes was named GCAC Setter of the Week, and Whitney Knight was recognized as GCAC Player of the Week.
In five matches, Knight attacked at a clip of .342 and averaged 3.35 kills and 2.41 digs per game. She added 7 blocks and 6 aces for good measure. Helping to guide the Mobile offense, Stokes averaged an impressive 6.35 assists per game and served up 12 aces. Her best performance came in the form of a 28 assist, 6 ace effort against #26 Lee University.
On the men's side, Ruben Diaz was recognized as the Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week as the Rams went 0-1-1 against tough competition. The tie was a 3-3 double-overtime result against 11th-ranked Embry-Riddle, and Diaz was crucial in netting that result, with 2 goals and 1 assist. |
