UM Athletes Collect GCAC Weekly Awards

MOBILE, Ala-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the fall sports players of the week for the week ending September 28, 2008, and the University of Mobile had four players earn honors.

Anna Maddox was named the Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after allowing only 2 goals in 290 minutes of action over 3 games. The sophomore grabbed 8 saves and allowed only 1 goal versus NCAA II 3rd-ranked West Florida, shutout Reinhardt in double-overtime, and grabbed 5 saves versus Auburn-Montgomery.

Jason Williams earned the Defensive Player of the Week nod on the men's soccer side after grabbing 5 saves and allowing only 1 goal over 2 conference games. Williams guided the Rams to a shutout victory over Spring Hill College.

Mobile's 19th-ranked volleyball team was honored as well, with DeCreisha Arrington being named GCAC Volleyball Player of the Week for her work in a pair of Mobile victories. Arrington finished with 19 kills for an average of 3.17 per game and attacked an impressive .567. The sophomore added 6 blocks for the Lady Rams.

Cameron Smith continued his early-season dominance for Mobile by winning the Men's Golf Player of the Week for his play at Birmingham Southern's Southern Showdown. Smith used an opening-round 70 to propel himself to a 4th place finish, as Mobile finished 3rd overall.
