Mobile Athletes Continue To Pick Up Honors

HATTIESBURG, Miss—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the fall sports player of the week awards for the week ending October 19th, and the University of Mobile had a trio of honorees.

Erika Lundberg was named the GCAC Women’s Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, while Whitney Knight was named the Volleyball Player of the Week and Nicole Stokes was tabbed GCAC Setter of the Week.

It’s the 4th Setter of the Week award this year for Stokes and the 5th Player of the Week honor for Knight.

Lundberg picked up her award after finishing 3rd at the Chick-Fil-A Collegiate Invitational at Berry College. The true freshman fired a 9-over par 153 in the two-round tournament and helped the Lady Rams to a 6th place finish.

Stokes and Knight, meanwhile, helped the Lady Rams go 2-0 in a pair of GCAC matches and improve to 25-1 on the season. The Lady Rams are ranked 19th in the NAIA Top-25.

Stokes posted an 18 assist, 6 dig effort in the week-opening 3-0 victory over Loyola University, and then followed up with 14 assists and 8 digs at Dillard University.

Knight was honored largely for her impressive outing against Loyola, who was receiving votes in the NAIA Top-25 at the time. The junior posted a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs, and attacked over .600. She had 12 kills in 19 attacks, with 0 errors. Knight followed that with a 10-kill, 8-dig effort at Dillard.

The Lady Rams travel to the Georgetown Tournament Oct. 24-25, where they could face several ranked NAIA schools.
