Trio of Rams Win GCAC Honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Player of the Week awards for the week ending October 26, and three University of Mobile athletes were honored.
Whitney Knight was named the GCAC Volleyball Player of the Week for the 6th time this season as Mobile went 3-1 at the Georgetown College Tournament, and teammate Paula Stilkey was named Hitter of the Week for the 2nd time.
Rams' goalkeeper Jason Williams was named GCAC Defensive Player of the Week for the 3rd time this season after the Rams upset 6th-ranked Belhaven College 3-1.
Knight averaged 3.4 kills and 3.7 digs per game in four matches at the Georgetown Tournament against top competition. She posted 3 double-doubles and had highs of 18 kills and 24 digs on the week. Stilkey led Mobile with a .302 attack percentage on the week and finished with 39 kills and 28 digs. She also added 10 aces and 19 blocks to lead Mobile. The junior had a 10-kill, 15-dig double-double in the win over No. 28 Freed-Hardeman.
Williams earned his honor largely for his play in the upset win over Belhaven. Williams posted 4 saves in 90 minutes of action in the game and allowed only 1 goal as the Rams won 3-1. |
