Six UM Athletes Earn Weekly Honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference named the GCAC Players of the Week for the week ending November 1, and the Rams had six athletes honored.
Chris Dillon was named GCAC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after the Rams went 1-1 in a pair of contests. The freshman scored Mobile's lone goal in a 2-1 loss to West Florida, and then led a Mobile defense that limited Spring Hill to only two shots as the Rams won 4-0.
For women's soccer, Anna Maddox was named GCAC Defensive Player of the Week and Missy Stovall was named GCAC Offensive Player of the Week. Maddox had a 3-save shutout against rival Spring Hill and then tallied 3 more saves against No. 4 William Carey. Stovall assisted Mobile's lone goal in the 1-0 win over the Lady Badgers and then scored her team-leading 15th goal of the year against William Carey.
Paula Stilkey was named GCAC Volleyball Player of the Week and Melody Tenney was named Setter of the Week after the Lady Rams went 3-2 against top competition. Stilkey played in four matches, totaling 46 kills, 45 digs and 12 blocks. She had a 13-kill, 21-dig double-double against No. 6 Georgetown and an 11-kill, 13-dig double-double in the win over Freed-Hardeman. Tenney finished with 183 assists on the week, with a high of 46 against Freed. She finished with a 41-assist, 20-dig double-double against Georgetown and added 6 blocks on the week.
Gerica Johnson was named GCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The Theodore, Ala. native averaged 14 points, 8 rebounds, 5.5 assists and 3.5 steals in a pair of wins to start the season. She had a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds versus Talladega. |
