Six UM Athletes Earn Weekly Honors
HATTIESBURG, Miss—The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference released the GCAC Player of the Week awards for the week ending Nov. 9, and the University of Mobile dominated once again with 6 athletes honored.
Sherri McIntosh was named Women’s Basketball Player of the Week, Maegan Rice was named Women’s Golf Player of the Week, Jason Williams was named Men’s Soccer National Defensive Player of the Week, Onesimus Ikungo was named Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, Anna Maddox was named Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week and Aislinn Finfrock was named Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
McIntosh helped the Lady Rams go 3-0 on the week to start the season with a 4-0 record. She averaged 12 points and 12 boards with a pair of double-doubles, including a 14-point, 16-rebound effort in a 56-52 win over #23 Berry College.
Rice, a junior, helped the Lady Ram golf team to a 2nd-place finish at the UM Fall Classic. The tournament closed out the fall slate for Mobile and saw the two-time All-American finish 2nd overall with an opening-round 75 and final round 80.
Williams and Ikungo teamed up to help guide the 16th-ranked UM men’s soccer team to the GCAC Championship with 2-0 wins over Belhaven and 14th-ranked William Carey University. Williams tallied 7 saves and pitched two shutouts in goal, while Ikungo broke a season-long scoreless skid with a goal in each game, including the game-winner over the Crusaders.
Maddox and Finfrock played big roles for the Lady Ram soccer team as they upset 13th-ranked William Carey by an impressive 4-0 margin. Maddox drew rave reviews from the Carey coaching staff while finishing with 6 saves for the shutout, then posted 7 more shutouts in a 1-0 loss to Belhaven. Finfrock, meanwhile, provided the game-winner at William Carey, scoring just 4 minutes in. |
