Mar. 11: Our first game against Lyon was really good because we showed a lot of moxy and kept coming back. We didn't pitch it that well, but the bats picked us up. Some guys started to get a feel for their swing and we saw some balls hit really hard. We are starting to figure out what the pieces to the puzzle are and how they fit. When you bring in 12 new people, it takes time to figure that out and we are starting to see guys develop into roles and be successful.
The 2nd game, we pitched well and hit balls hard, but right at people. It was a good, well-played game. We did make a few mistakes on the bases and some minor things went wrong. Our hits just didn't fall.
We are looking forward to this weekend at Spring Hill. Both teams always play well and it will come down to who executes. |

Mar. 11: Against Spring Hill's women I knew it would be 5-4 and I felt confident whoever won two doubles matches would win the match, and they did that. They have a very solid team 1-6. The next time we play them we know we have to look for that 5th point and emphasize doubles play.
Right now, I feel we're right where I thought we'd be. It's a long season and I feel we can only get better. It was the first time for several players to play in a big match. Stillman was a very good match that came down to doubles again, and that's what won the match. We got very solid play from Zelie, Rachel and Claudia.
The guys beat Spring Hill 8-1, but it was very close. We got all three doubles points. I feel the guys played very well, but Spring Hill is much improved and you can't take them lightly.
Against Stillman, the score wasn't indicative of the match. There were very poor weather conditions and I was worried about singles play, but 2-6 won for us. We are going in the right direction, but still need a lot of improvement. They are working hard and we'll get there. |
Mar. 11: Spring Hill beat us by 2 strokes, but we did come back on Lindenwood who was ranked well ahead of us and that was good to see. Spring Hill played really well and had a 4-shot comeback to overtake us. It showed our guys you can't just worry about one team.
Cameron Smith played very good at the tournament, his scoring clubs were working very well. As a team, we played very well. We showed a lot of effort and really grinded the entire 36 holes. I was proud to see them do that.
Next we play March 29-30 at University of North Alabama. We are really going to have to prepare for that tournament. It's a very long course and will take a lot of preparation and determination from the guys to put up a good showing. Hopefully we'll be prepared and ready and can build off the 2nd place finish. |

Mar. 11: This week we played in the Spring Hill 2010 Badger Invite, here in town at Spring Hill golf course. The course has recently replaced their greens and they were running very slick. This made conditions very hard. The team didn’t post scores that we would normally be happy with, however they were decent scores considering the conditions. The first day we posted a 348 team score which gave us a 23 stroke lead over the field of # 20 Lindenwood University, Spring Hill College, and Faulkner University. Maegan Rice shot the daily low of 78 while Abbie Harris was in 2nd with an 84. The second day we faced colder weather with wind and a little rain at the end of the round. The team posted a 355 for the day. Maegan Rice won the event posting a second day low of 82 for a total of 160. Abbie Harris finished in 4th with a two day total of 176. We finished as team champions of the event by 29 strokes. Although we won the Badger Invite our scores need to continue to go lower. This week we head to Rome Georgia to play in Berry College’s Coosa Invitational. I am hopeful we will play to our ability as a team! |
