MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team will begin their 3rd season of competition Tuesday, August 28th at 7:30 pm in Pharr Gym. Coming off a 31-7 2006 campaign and a regular season Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Championship, the Lady Rams will host NCAA-affiliated foe South Alabama to kick off the 2007 season. Mobile returns 7 players from last year's championship team in Amber Presnell, Tasha Buchanan, Whitney Knight, Nicole Stokes, Syretta Baldwin, Tiffany Threadgill and Paula Stilkey. That includes 5 award winners. Baldwin was named GCAC Player of the Year, Knight was named GCAC Freshman of the Year, Stokes earned GCAC Setter of the Year honors, and Buchanan and Stilkey were named to the All-GCAC 1st Team. But, coaches Jon and Amber Campbell didn't sit still with all of the talented returning players, they went out and brought in some more talented volleyball players who should help keep the team going in the right direction. The newcomers who are expected to contribute early on, are Cassy Johnson, Jessica Bodkin, Kristen Simpson and Alyson Kovacs. Hosting the NCAA-affiliated Lady Jaguars will give the Lady Rams a chance to get the season started off on a high and gain some valuable experience. |
