Lady Rams Continue To Roll And Start 4-0

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile volleyball team continued their impressive play by making short work of NCAA Div I Alabama State 3-0 (25-15, 25-10, 25-12) Saturday at the Spring Hill College Classic.

Mobile dominated in all facets of the game, out hitting the Lady Hornets .355 to -.056 and picking up a 13-3 edge in service aces.

In the opening game, Mobile built a 12-5 lead thanks to 5 combined aces from Amy Carey and Whitney Knight. In game two, Mobile broke open a 5-3 game with an 8-0 run as Paula Stilkey hammered down four early kills. The final game was close early, with Mobile clinging to a 10-8 lead, but the Lady Rams caught fire and finished in style by scoring 15 of the final 19 points to end the match.

Knight narrowly missed a double-double with an 11 kill, 9 dig effort, while adding 5 aces from the service line. Stilkey added 9 kills and 8 digs, and Nicole Stokes paced the Lady Rams with 16 assists.

Mobile v. Northood University

MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile volleyball team continued its solid play early in the season by picking up another victory at the Spring Hill College Classic, downing Northwood University (FL) 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-14) Saturday morning.

Mobile fell behind early 4-0 thanks to three attack errors, but a pair of runs allowed the Lady Rams to win the opening game with ease. Kristen Simpson sparked a 5-0 run with a pair of aces to go ahead 5-4. Later in the game, Northwood claimed a short-lived 12-11 lead, but Mobile went on a 10-1 run, with the serving of Simpson and Amber Presnell sparking the run.

Game two was a bit easier, with Mobile claiming a quick 8-1 lead behind three early kills from Whitney Knight. Northwood would get no closer than five the rest of the way. Mobile used five service aces and four kills from Simpson to pick up the game three win for the shutout.
