Lady Rams Volleyball Dominates Tournament Field
SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark--The University of Mobile Lady Rams bounced back from a season-opening loss to South Alabama, by sweeping the field at the John Brown University Tournament, going 4-0 over the weekend.
"We are really proud the way the girls pulled together and played this weekend,"Head Coach Jon Campbell said. "Our offense looks really strong and the defense continues to improve each game."
Day 2:
On Saturday, the Lady Rams opened play by taking down Brenau University 3-0 (30-25, 30-14, 30-15). Nicole Stokes and Amber Presnell served up 4 aces apiece for Mobile.
Stokes and Alyson Kovacs combined for 34 assists with 19 and 15 respectively, while Syretta Baldwin led the offensive attack with 11 kills.
Mobile's final match of the tournament saw the Lady Rams continue to roll with a 30-24, 30-20, 30-26 victory over Lyon College.
Libero Tasha Buchanan led the defense with 17 digs and Paula Stilkey continued her stellar play over the weekend with a team-leading 15 kills and 7 blocks. Presnell added 10 digs for the Lady Rams.
Day 1:
Mobile opened the day by toppling host team John Brown University 3-1 (30-27, 30-22, 19-30, 30-19).
In the opener, Tasha Buchanan totaled 18 digs and served up 3 aces, while Whitney Knight finished with 4 aces and 18 kills. Former McGill-Toolen standout Nicole Stokes led the way with 29 assists, while Tiffany Threadgill finished with 6 blocks for the Lady Rams.
Following that victory, Mobile took down Lambuth University in 3 games, 30-25, 30-20 and 31-29.
Knight and Syretta Baldwin finished with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, while freshman Alyson Kovacs came through with 16 assists, 11 digs and 2 aces. Stokes finished with 24 assists and 13 digs.
Mobile returns home to host Faulkner University Tuesday, September 4th at 7:30 pm.
