UM Lady Rams Dispose of Dillard 3-0

MOBILE, Ala-- One day after moving to the top of the Region XIII rankings, the University of Mobile volleyball team headed into tuesday's home match with Dillard needing to take care of business. The Lady Rams did just that, beating the Lady Devils 3-0 (30-21, 30-26, 30-17).

After starting off slowly in the opening game and falling behind 4-2, the Lady Rams responded, going on a 7-0 run to reclaim the lead and get some momentum. From there, Mobile just continued to take control, eventually building up a 29-20 lead, which matched the largest margin of the game. Syretta Baldwin capped the scoring with her 4th kill, while Paula Stilkey came up big with 4 blocks in the opener.

Game 2 saw Mobile take an early lead and hold off the feisty Lady Devils. The Lady Rams never trailed after the game was tied at 2, but Dillard kept the deficit at 2-5 points all match, until the Lady Rams pulled away late for a 29-23 edge. Baldwin again finished the scoring, with her 8th kill of game two.

The finale saw Mobile jump ahead 5-0 and cruise to the finish line with a 30-17 win. The Lady Rams move to 9-2 on the season and 2-0 in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference play.

Baldwin led the offense with 17 kills and added 7 digs, while Whitney Knight finished with 10 kills and 9 digs for Mobile. Stilkey chipped in with a solid performance in several areas, finishing with 8 kills, 4 aces, 11 digs and 5 blocks. Nicole Stokes and Tasha Buchanan did the setting for the Lady Rams, finishing with 23 and 14 assists, respectively.

Next up for Mobile is a trip to Lebanon, TN for the Cumberland University Tournament. On Friday, September 21st, the Lady Rams will play Univ. of Rio Grande and Lambuth University at 5:00 and 7:00 pm, respectively.
