Mobile Picks Up Conference Win
MOBILE, Ala-- The 20th-ranked University of Mobile remained unbeaten on the season by winning their first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference match, 3-0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-12) over visiting Dillard University Wednesday.
Dillard put up a fight in the opening set, leading early 5-1 before the Lady Rams fought back to tie it up at 5 apiece. With Mobile holding a tenuous 12-10 lead, DeCreisha Arrington produced 3 quick kills and the Lady Rams went on a run to an 18-12 advantage. Dillard fought back to within 21-19, but a pair of Whitney Knight kills finished off set one, 25-19 in favor of the home team.
The visitors again put up a battle early in the second set, as Mobile held a 12-11 lead about halfway through the set. But, Mobile showed why they are the 20th ranked team in the country, going on a 13-4 run to finish the set off in style. Five attack errors by Dillard and three kills by Knight ignited the run.
With the match pretty much in hand with a 2-0 lead, the Lady Rams had little trouble finishing things off. After an early 4-4 tie, Mobile went on a 10-2 run to build an 8-point lead and never look back.
Whitney Knight led the way in the match with a double-double of 12 kills and 10 digs, while DeCreisha Arrington raked up 10 kills with a .412 attack percentage. Kelly Sherling added 9 kills with a .412 attack percentage as well.
Mobile (16-0, 1-0) next plays Tuesday, September 30th at 7:30 pm when they host crosstown rival Spring Hill College.
