Lady Rams Trample Lady Badgers

MOBILE, Ala-- The 19th-ranked University of Mobile volleyball team remained unbeaten and picked up an impressive Gulf Coast Athletic Conference win Tuesday night by disposing of Spring Hill in straight sets.

Mobile dominated, winning those sets 25-7, 25-10, 25-10. Some matches have to be seen in person, but the box score can tell the story of this match.

The Lady Rams finished with a 48-8 edge in kills and out-hit the visitors .500 to -.127. Mobile had the edge in blocks, 6-2, and out-dug the Lady Badgers 48-23.

Mobile set the tone in the opening set, running out to a 13-2 lead thanks to the offense of Syretta Baldwin, Whitney Knight and Kelly Sherling. With the set sitting at 19-7 in favor of Mobile, the Lady Rams ran away with it, by picking up the final 6 points.

The second set was much of the same, with Mobile jumping out to a 13-3 lead behind 4 early kills from Sherling. The Mobile defense held the Lady Badgers to a -.222 attack percentage in the set.

In the final set, the Lady Badgers pulled within striking distance, down 12-6, but Mobile reeled off 7 straight points and 10-of-11 to run away with the match. Sherling produced 4 kills in the run, including 3 straight to start it off.

Sherling led Mobile with 15 kills in the match, while Knight added 11 kills and 8 digs, with both players hitting over .400. Syretta Baldwin added 7 kills on a remarkable .778 hitting percentage and Paula Stilkey added 7 kills and 8 digs. Nicole Stokes finished with 26 assists and 7 digs.

Mobile (17-0, 2-0) hosts Belhaven College Friday, October 3rd at 7:30 pm.
