Lady Rams Win Again

MOBILE, Ala-- The 19th-ranked University of Mobile volleyball team cruised to their 18th-straight victory of the season, beating Gulf Coast Athletic Conference foe Belhaven College in straight sets.

Mobile won 25-14, 25-7, 25-19, while out-hitting the Lady Blazers .220 to -.077 and serving up 9 aces to help the cause.

Up 6-5 early in set number one, the Lady Rams took 12 of the next 15 points to take command of the match's opening set. Eight Belhaven errors helped the cause in the run.

The second set was much easier for the Lady Rams, as the team jumped ahead 7-1 and then breaking open an 8-4 lead with a 12-1 run, capped by 4-straight kills from Kelly Sherling.

The final set actually saw Belhaven take a lead, as the early see-saw action gave the visitors a 13-11 edge about halfway through the set. Mobile then went on a mini 5-1 spurt to retake the lead and held on for the sweep.

Whitney Knight just-missed a double-double with 11 kills and 9 digs, while Kelly Sherling came in with 9 kills for Mobile. Nicole Stokes finished with 15 assists and 4 aces, and Paula Stilkey added 8 digs and 6 blocks for the Lady Rams.

Mobile (18-0, 3-0) next plays Tuesday, October 7th at University of West Florida for a 7:00 pm match.
