Lee snaps Lady Rams' 24-match win streak
MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile Lady Rams fell at home to Lee University Thursday night 1-3 (16-30, 30-26, 17-30, 21-30).
The 21st-ranked Lady Flames were too much for Mobile to handle and the Top-25 talent level was obvious. The Lady Rams had no chance in the first game, with the closest gap being at the 0-1 mark. Lee steadily stretched the lead out, as Mobile struggled handling serves and with Lee's size.
The Lady Rams showed what makes them a contender in game No. 2 when they took a 12-11 lead and never gave it up. Syretta Baldwin and Whitney Knight found the talent that has earned them Player of the Week honors this season and helped Mobile pull away from a 27-26 edge and finish the game.
Mobile was again outmatched in the third game when the closest they could get was 10-12, before Lee went on an 18-7 run to finish off the game and take control of the match.
Game No. 3 looked to be the most lopsided game of the match when the Lady Rams found themselves trailing 6-17. Mobile went on a 14-6 run to pull within 20-23 on a Baldwin block, but it was not to be. The Lady Flames easily pulled away down the stretch for the Region XIII victory.
Baldwin finished the match with 14 kills and 13 digs, while Knight chipped in with 10 kills and 13 digs of her own. Paula Stilkey had 9 kills, while Tasha Buchanan provided 21 assists and 7 kills of her own.
Mobile hosts Belhaven Friday October 20th at 7:30.
