Lady Rams Cruise Past Lady Badgers

MOBILE, Ala—The 22nd-ranked University of Mobile volleyball team dominated rival Spring Hill College in straight sets, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16 Tuesday in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action.

Spring Hill held only one lead in the entire match, up 2-0 to begin the third and final set, but Mobile bounced right back and reeled off 6 straight points thanks to a pair of aces and a kill from Kristen Simpson.

Mobile also out-hit the Lady Badgers .290 to .024 and held a 9-0 edge in blocks, led by Cassy Johnson's 6 block assists and Syretta Baldwin's 5 block assists.

The opening set was actually close as Spring Hill rallied to cut an early Mobile lead to only two points late in the set at 19-17. But, from there Spring Hill fell apart with 4 attack errors the rest of the way to help Mobile pick up the match-opening win.

The second set was all Mobile, as the Lady Rams held Spring Hill to a -.034 attack percentage and jumped out to early leads of 7-1 and 14-4 to take control of the set and take a 2-0 lead in the match. The final set belonged to Mobile as well, after the Lady Rams bounced back from the early 2-0 deficit.

Whitney Knight paced Mobile with a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs while hitting .450, and Simpson added 8 kills and 4 aces. Syretta Baldwin hit .318 and added 9 kills, while DeCreisha Arrington pounded out 7 kills on a .636 attack percentage.

Mobile (29-2, 6-0) next plays at Belhaven Friday, Oct. 31 at 7:00 pm.
