Lady Rams Headed to National Tournament

MOBILE, Ala-- The University of Mobile volleyball team is headed to the NAIA National Tournament in Columbia, Mo. November 28th after winning the Region XIII Tournament.

Mobile breezed through the first 3 matches of the tournament, losing only 1 game, and then they faced Loyola University in the championship match: the same Loyola team that knocked Mobile out in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament.

That didn't matter on this day, as the Lady Rams got the much sweeter win, taking down the Lady Wolfpack 3-0 (30-23, 30-24, 32-30).

Mobile took early control of the opening game as Kristen Simpson served the Lady Rams to a 6-0 lead. They never trailed in the game and led by as much as 12 at 23-11.

Game 2 looked like it was going to be just the opposite as the Lady Wolfpack jumped ahead 7-1. But, Mobile answered back and finally got the game tied at 13-13 and took their first lead 17-16 on an ace from Tasha Buchanan. From there, kills from Syretta Baldwin, Cassy Johnson and Jessica Bodkin took Mobile to a 23-18 lead and they held on for the 30-24 victory.

The final game was fittingly a thriller to cap such a big victory. Through the first 25 points, neither team could muster a lead larger than 2 until Mobile picked up a 15-12 lead on a block from Johnson and Whitney Knight. It went back-and-forth to the very end and the Lady Rams clinched their trip to Missouri with the 32-30 victory.

The achievements just keep coming for Mobile, as Head Coach Jon Campbell picked up his 200th victory with the win to move his all-time record to 200-108.
