Lady Rams Open Conference Season With a Bang

HATTIESBURG, Miss-- The University of Mobile women's basketball team got the 2008 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference season started off with a bang by using a big comeback to take down William Carey University 69-61 in overtime.

The two teams battled back and forth in the first half of play as neither team could build a lead larger than 4. But, when the second half started, things looked bleak for Mobile as William Carey went on a 17-2 run to open play and took a commanding 48-32 lead with 13:45 remaining in the half.

The Lady Rams, thought, slowly chipped away at the lead and finally tied the game at the 2:30 mark when Crystal Hutchinson grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back to notch the game at 53-53. Less than a minute later, Danielle Goodly came up huge for Mobile and drained a 3-pointer to giver her team its first lead of the half, 56-54.

After the Lady Crusaders fought back to force overtime with a score of 56-56, they struck first and put Mobile down 58-56 to begin the extra period. From there, it was all Lady Rams, as Goodly drained another long ball to put her team ahead 59-58, and then Mobile went on a 10-3 run to finish it off.

Mobile moves to 5-7 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. The Lady Rams were led by Sherri McIntosh with 18 points, and got a double-double from Goodly with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Crystal Hutchinson added 9 points and 9 rebounds for Mobile. Fallon Hartfield paced the Lady Crusaders with a 18 point, 17 rebound effort.

Mobile returns to action at Tougaloo College, Saturday January 5th at 5:00 pm.
