Three Point Record Can't Bury Rams As Mobile Defeats Loyola
84-75
NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Rams tried a three-point shootout
but settled for their bread and butter inside game as UM defeated the
Wolfpack of Loyola University 84-75 Monday night at the Den. On a night
that saw the Wolfpack's Kiely Schork break the single-game record for
most three-pointers with nine, the front-court attack of forwards Kinga
Rybarczyk (22 points) and Crystal Coston (16 points) was still too much
for Loyola.
Three-pointers told the tale of the first half as the Rams found themselves
down 45-39. UM, while shooting a solid a 56 percent from the field, found
themselves shooting only 3-of-9 from beyond the arc. Loyola's Schork
was shooting the lights out from downtown with 5-of-8 at the break with
the rest of the
Wolfpack adding 2-of-4 from no-man's land.
Mobile switched gears in the second half as they used the inside game
of Rybarczyk (16 points in the second half) and Coston to open with a
16-8 run. Forcing the Wolfpack to call for timeout with 13:00 minutes
remaining, the Rams never looked back as they improved to 12-3 overall
and 3-0 in conference play.
UM was also led by senior point guard Jessica Barber's 17 points and
Sandra Kostandinovic's 13.
Kiely Schork used 9-of-19 shooting from beyond the arc to lead all scorers
with 29 points. Dani Holland's 20 points and Joelle Bordelon's 13-point
and 10-assists double-double helped Loyola (9-8, 0-3) nearly pull off
the upset over the GCAC top-ranked Rams.
Mobile will return home for a Thursday evening match-up against Belhaven
College at 5:30 p.m.
