Lady Rams Beat Dillard
MOBILE, Ala—The University of Mobile women’s basketball team snapped a 2-game skid in impressive fashion, by manhandling Dillard University 75-48 Thursday night in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference action.
The Lady Rams dominated the boards in the opening half to make up for a 39% shooting effort from the field and to build a 39-25 lead heading into the break.
Despite the score, the Lady Devils actually struck first and built a quick 7-2 lead, but the Lady Rams stormed back and took their first lead, 8-7, at the 16:23 mark when Jenee Washington grabbed an offensive board and got the putback.
From there, the teams battled back-and-forth until Mobile led 18-15 with 11:31 remaining in the period. That’s when the Lady Rams busted things wide open with a 21-10 run to close out the half. Lakeela Lowe capped the run with a buzzer-beater from downtown.
In the half, the Lady Rams grabbed an impressive 30 rebounds versus only 15 for the visitors. Mobile held a 14-4 edge on the offensive glass. Jenee Washington put up 6 points and 10 boards in the half, while Crystal Hutchinson added 6 points and 9 rebounds herself.
In the second half, the Lady Rams made sure there wouldn’t be a comeback by starting off with a quick 11-2 spurt, and shooting 54% from the field. Meanwhile, the Mobile defense shutdown the Lady Devils on offense and held them to 27% shooting from the floor.
Hutchinson finished with 16 points and 17 rebounds, Danielle Goodly added 10 points and 5 assists, and Sherri McIntosh chipped in 10 points. Lowe finished with 12 points for the Lady Rams, while the Lady Devils were led by a 21-point, 12-rebound effort from Sandra Nweke. |
